How to watch the GTA 6 Extended Look: every time zone, and the free option

You do not need Netflix to watch the GTA 6 Extended Look. You need to be willing to wait six hours.

That is the whole trick, and it is buried in the second half of Rockstar’s announcement, which is why a lot of coverage is telling people to subscribe.

The two times

Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look premieres Thursday, August 27, 2026, in two places, six hours apart.

The Netflix premiere is at 3 p.m. ET. A Netflix subscription is required during that window — any paid tier will do, and Rockstar’s site links straight to netflix.com/GTAVI with a Remind Me button; that address redirects to the title page for the presentation in your region.

The free release lands at 9 p.m. ET, on the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel and on the Grand Theft Auto VI site. No account, no subscription, no region restrictions beyond whatever YouTube already applies where you live.

Both are the same presentation. Rockstar has not suggested the YouTube version is cut down.

For most of Europe, the free YouTube release lands somewhere between two and three in the morning. That is the practical reason to consider Netflix rather than any exclusive content — you are paying for a reasonable bedtime, not for extra footage.

Which to pick

If you already have Netflix, watch at 3 p.m. ET. There is no reason not to.

If you do not, the six-hour wait costs you nothing except spoiler exposure, and that is the real trade. Between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. ET the entire internet will be discussing what was in it, frame grabs will be everywhere, and every gaming outlet will have published a breakdown. Muting the obvious keywords across social platforms for those six hours is worth doing if you care about seeing it cold.

Subscribing to Netflix for one month solely to watch this is a poor trade at typical subscription prices for a presentation of unknown length that goes free the same evening.

There is one thing worth checking if you plan to watch on Netflix: the premiere is a scheduled event rather than an on-demand title, so treat 3 p.m. ET as a fixed start rather than something you can begin at your convenience. Rockstar has not said how long it stays available on Netflix afterwards.

What Rockstar has actually said about the content

Almost nothing, and this is where most articles start inventing.

Confirmed: the title, the date, the two platforms, the two times. That is the complete list.

Not confirmed: the runtime, whether it contains gameplay footage, whether it is a third trailer, whether it is one continuous piece or several segments, and whether it includes commentary or developer interviews.

The word “extended” has been read across the industry as pointing to gameplay rather than another cut trailer, which is a reasonable inference from the phrasing and from the fact that Rockstar has never shown gameplay for this game. It is still an inference.

Two claims circulating are worth flagging as false. A viral screenshot claiming the presentation runs 66-plus minutes across three episodes used a Netflix interface layout that does not match the real one. And a story from a major outlet on August 21 gave the date as August 28 — the correct date is August 27, per Rockstar’s own newswire.

Will the leaks change anything

No, according to reporting from GamesRadar+: Rockstar has no intention of cancelling or moving the showing because of the material published by CyberLeek since August 18.

That makes August 27 the first time anyone sees GTA VI gameplay that Rockstar chose to show, which is a meaningfully different thing from footage taken from an unfinished build.
